We want to be in control of every aspect of our lives. When things don’t go the way we want, we may see that as a loss of control, which can be disappointing or discouraging. Our desire for control is a threat to our faith. What if things happened exactly the way they were meant to? When we try to control everything in our lives, we are telling God that we have put our trust in our plans more than his. If we are constantly attempting to manage outcomes, we’re not allowing God to lead.
The root of control is fear. There is a fear that if we let go, we may not get our desired result. But faith calls us to trust God’s plan and surrender that fear. When we surrender the desire to be in control, we discover a deeper faith that is more authentic. This faith rests in God’s ability to guide us and not in our ability to manage our lives. Allow God to work in his way and time in your life. This is true faith.
“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5)
