The Bible is filled with directions, advice, encouragement, warnings, and examples to help us. One of these instructions speaks of how unreliable our own understanding can be. The Bible says not to depend on your own understanding. Why? Because our hearts are deceitful, our emotions fluctuate, and we can’t see the overall big picture. We tend to make assumptions based on the limited amount of information we have, which could lead to negative consequences. God sees the big picture and has access to more information than we do. He never lies, never changes, and knows everything. Trust God and follow his directions, even if you don’t understand them.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
