Control Your Temper

It is wise to control your temper. There is a cost when we lose our temper. We say things that are hurtful or cause damage to people or sometimes property. We can do stupid things when we’re angry. We must choose how we respond in these situations. Once something is said, it cannot be taken back. You might need to step away and give yourself time to calm down before responding. When we don’t do this, we tend to react instead of responding. You have control over whether you will react or respond.

In some cases, it’s necessary to understand why you are angry. Anger is usually caused by hurt, frustration (feeling out of control), or fear (insecurity/embarrassment). Identify the cause so you can move beyond it. The closer we get to God the more patience we obtain, and the more peace we will have. We need God’s help to do this.

“A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.” (Proverbs 29:11)

“Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus” (Romans 15:5)
